Your thoughts of an ebay buyer winning an item at US$13.97 but then gets the item delivered first class?
costing the seller $17.00 in postage?
Looking at this it’s obvious the seller didn’t earn any profit plus it cost the seller extra so the seller doesn’t make any profit and looses profit.
I had won two small pocket sized antique books plus shipping and handling which totaled $13.97. When I got the item I saw on the customs form that the listed value of the items was US$30.00 and it cost the seller US$17.00 to ship out items.
Does that even make sense? She didn’t make any money, in fact it costed her more money to ship out item. Wouldn’t it have made sense if she had just shipped out item by air mail in a bubble mailer for a total of about $2.68 to $4.74?
Whenever I’ve purchased from ebay the shipping and handling costs were always passed on to me the buyer. There is a place on most sellers’ items that gives you a choice of which way you the buyer want your item shipped and if you elect to have insurance. Some sellers on Ebay add to there profits that way by charging “handling”. I wrote to one of the seller who did this to one of my purchases before I checked into the shipping options and she told me that was the extra it cost her for the “free USPS flat rate box” her time and gas going to the Post Office. I’m not sure how it would work for “customs” on out of the USA purchase.
I’ve found that in a lot of cases it costs me more to buy from ebay due to the shipping than buying at regular prices off the internet and getting better bulk shipping rates. But then that’s been my experience so I only go to ebay when what I want to buy is no longer available like a replacement for something I already have and don’t want to replace with the new and improved model that I don’t particularly like.
